Comedown (2020)
for Berghain’ Panorama Bar sound system, audio, 7'08''

Comedown was made at the occasion of the exhibition Studio Berlin in Berghain. The sound installation isolated formatted elements of club music intended to induce euphoria and a collective sensation of intensity. Displaced from their full musical context and thus never finding a proper emotional release, those elements invoke an ongoing state of tension through contradictory feelings of frustrations. While standing as an outlet for the catharsis of emotions repressed in broad daylight and during the workweek, the club and its music market also mirror those social dynamics. Amid the industry of sample packs, one can for instance find masculine vocal incentives for moneymaking, mind-body wellness and war imagery. The Panorama Bar sound system turns into a broken-down engine, continuously failing to either continue or start again and come back to "normal".
